1. In case of emergency of exigent circumstances, parents or guardians can contact, parent coordinator, Ms. Josanne Edgar 718-251-4110 Ext 1141.
2. In case of an emergency or exigent circumstances, students may access phones (with permission) in the main office.
3. In case of emergency or exigent circumstances, the school will use Class Dojo or GAMA (the NYCPS automated messaging system) to communicate information to parents or guardians.
1st violation: If a student is found in possession of a personal device during the school day, they will be given a warning, and the device will be placed in the storage box.
2nd violation: If a student attempts to use or keep their device, during the school day, the device will be confiscated and returned at the end of the day, a student conference will be held, and parent/guardian will be contacted.
3rd violation: If a student attempts to use or keep their device, during the school day, the device will be confiscated, the parent/guardian will be contacted and will be returned only to a parent/guardian.
Non-compliance: If a student refuses to hand in the device after being found with it or tries to use their device, the parent/guardian will be contacted, and they may be subject to a suspension. Repeated violations will result in disciplinary action in accordance with the DOE Discipline Code.
1. Students are allowed to use their device if they have an individualized education program (IEP) or 504 Plan that includes use of an interact-enabled device and do not have a DOE-issued device for such purpose. 2. Parent/guardians must contact the Parent Coordinator, Ms. Josanne Edgar at 718-251- 4110, Ext 1141 if a student requires an exception for reasons such as:
1. medical monitoring/treatments (for example to monitor blood sugar or other similar circumstances)
2. If the student is a caregiver
3. Approved language purposes (such as translation or interpretation services if no other means are available)
4. Or where otherwise required by law
SCHOOL-BASED POLICY FOR USE OF CELL PHONES & ELECTRONIC DEVICES In accordance with Chancellors Regulations A-413
Phones or other electronic devices are not to be used during school hours. Under the updated policy, Chancellor's Regulation A-413, students are not permitted to use personal internet-enabled electronic devices during the school day. This includes devices such as cell phones, laptops, tablets, and portable music and entertainment systems.
As students arrive to school, they will:
1. Turn off all personal devices (cell phones, ear pods, smart watches etc.) before entering the school building.
2. Upon entering their classroom students must place all electronic devices in a labeled pouch provided by the school.
3. The pouches will be securely stored and locked in a designated storage box until the end of the school day.
As students leave school, they will:
1. Retrieve their devices from the locked storage box before leaving the school building at the end of the day.
